My Vipassana experience

VIPASSANA EXPERIENCE

Absolutely unbelievable & amazing experience of Vipassana Meditation, it cannot be explained in words but has to be experienced from within. I have no words to express myself about Vipassana experience. First of all, I would like to thank this Universe and everyone who supported me to attend Vipassana. I’m very grateful to my parents, friends, family & all my loving ones to bring me to this journey.  Secondly, I would say it's really a great opportunity to explore your inner self, looking deeper into your own life and knowing yourself.

I would like to divide my experience into 3 parts. First what is Vipassana meditation, secondly the experience I had in myself during these 10 days course and lastly what are my learnings.

I had this thought of going for Vipassana in the year 2012, when first time I knew about meditation. I had researched so many things and tried to go for it many a times but was unable to go for it as I was not getting an opportunity. Then now in this year 2024 I was very much lucky & grateful to attend the same. I had gone to Dhamma Vahini Titwala Vipassana Centre for a 10 days Course. https://vahini.vridhamma.org/

 WHAT IS VIPASSANA?

Vipassana-bhavana, 'the development of insight, ' embodies the essence of the teaching of the Buddha. As taught by Shri. Satya Narayan Goenka, this path to self-awareness is extraordinary in its simplicity, its lack of dogma and, above all, its results. The Vipassana technique can be successfully applied by anyone.

Vipassana, which means to see things as they really are, is one of India's most ancient techniques of meditation. This technique was lost from ancient India and was brought back to India by Gautam Buddha 2500 years ago and was taught by him as a universal remedy for universal ills, i.e., an Art Of Living. This non-sectarian technique aims for the total eradication of mental impurities and the resultant highest happiness of full liberation.
As per my understanding it is a technique to know about you, your breath and the working of your mind and body. It is a technique to free our mind from all types of emotional blockages we have from many of our births gathered through this worldly life which are creating a stoppage to every aspect of success in life. Everyone in this world is not permanent and nothing is permanent. We all struggle to keep one or the other thing or people or any situation permanently in our life. We are always chasing for perfection and happiness together in everything and we fail to achieve the same which makes us disappointed, sad and weak from within.

Now I will go towards the course which is a 10-day course just to make you understand the technique & process but practice will make it a more fruitful journey towards building a beautiful life. On 20th Jan 2024, I left from my house for my new journey towards the light of peace and happiness, towards spirituality, towards the understanding of the truth of this human body and mind.

Information related to the course-

1. The first day is said to be Zero Day where it is the day of instruction and understanding how to go about the process.

2. The second day is the first day where you start knowing about your breathing pattern & have to watch your breath. This is called as Anaapan Technique followed by 2 more days. You have to follow complete Silence & Panchsheel to be disciplined for this process. You are taught to focus on a specific area of your nostrils & feel your breath and watch it wherever it touches. Then the next step is to feel the vibrations/sensation (Samavedana) happening over there.

3. Then on the 4th day comes the next step & Vipassana starts. You have to learn to observe the vibrations or sensations happening throughout the body from the top of the head to the tip of the toes.

4. This process is then diverse and the rotation of observation is done. During this process it is very important to just feel the breath, sensation and do not react to any of the sensational movements because it is just a feeling and it goes off and comes again. Means it is not permanent (Anitya) it is going to change.

This process of Anaapan & Vipassana is continuously followed with everyday Pravachan by Shri. Goenka Jii till the nineth day.

5. On the 10th Mita Pragya technique in which you are taught to focus mainly on giving to others the love, bliss and happiness you have within you.

MY EXPERIENCE DURING THE PROCESS.

I was into meditation for several years from 2012, I have learned various other techniques also, so I could easily follow the steps and go deep into meditation.  Still our mind is a monkey which never allows us to stay in one place so slowly this game started with me too. The 1st 3 days were okay for me to keep silent & focus on breathing. The main game started from the 4th day onwards where I was wondering how to control the monkey mind.

Samyak Sheel, Samadhi & Pragya are the 3 steps for a right way of life. Buddhism considers - Wisdom (Pragya), Ethical conduct (Sheel) and the Concentration (Samadhi) as the three essentials for life. Sheel, Samadhi, Pragya are called as 'Triratna' of Buddhist ethics. Wisdom comes from right view; it leads to the right intention.

To achieve all this being into your daily routine is very important for every human being born in this world & it is difficult but can be achieved by daily to practice. It was horrible to bring the monkey mind back from the past & future thoughts. But anyhow I used to manage to bring it back all the time and again focus on the process. In this way of communication & consistency to practice it started making me feel calm & blissful.

I understood that whatever I feel outside is more dangerous than whatever is going on inside within me that too without my knowledge. I experienced server pian also in my legs and many of the body parts in the process. I learned there is no need to stress your body for feeling any sensation it should come naturally & felt naturally, easily & with a calm mind.

In our whole life we all are running behind our material needs and flow through the ups & downs of life and stuck up in our own thoughts to get out of this busy life & find a place of relaxation. But whenever we are alone, we can't even sit in peace because we do not know how to manage our emotional imbalance. The mind starts talking so much during the process that we are very badly affected by the same.

We create so many Sanskars from our birth till the death and struggle for peace and happiness. But nothing is permanent in this life. So, we are struggling to keep everything for us for a lifetime which is impossible & brings & adds more and more sadness & pain in our life.

We can deal with all this by just simply accepting that everything is going to vanish/change after a period of time. So, no need to create Raag or Dwesh for the emotions and situations we face in life. We can live a simple & peaceful life with very less sadhanas (materialistic things) in life. Raag means basic attachment or liking towards a living being or a thing, Dwesh means hatred.

“Pragya Jagay Rakhna Jaruri” as guruji said. Means to keep the faith and karun within our inner self & spread love and affection for everyone & everything happening in life.

MY LEARNINGS -

1. Silence - Practicing & being silent from within is very important. We can keep our mouth shut down but our mind speaks continuously. So, this has to be controlled to get into peace of mind. Silence has to be not only from the mouth but our actions, thoughts, reactions etc in every aspect of life. No self-talk or negative talk.

2. Time Management - 5 minutes break was given to us and half an hour for breakfast & lunch. I learned to manage my work as per given time.

3. Keep Calm in any situation around me. The situation will come & go but how do we react to it matters & develops more similar situations in future.

4. Satisfied Life in very limited resources can be achieved. Life is very simple & we can easily, happily and peacefully live our life less attached to the materialistic things.

5. Obedience of Silence, Samadhi & Sheel gives life the right way of living. It also contributes to creating future self with no stress on your mind & body.

6. Self-Introspection - It is important to be alone & cut out from this world for days & go deep inward & do the self-introspection of your own actions & reactions.

7. Nothing is permanent - This is going to change. Believe, keep faith in the energy of abundance and work on yourself. Everything is going to be right in the right time.

8. Consistency & Practice is important & necessary tools for growth & development physically, mentally and financially.

9. Focus - Focusing on the breathing & sensations happening makes you understand to be in the present moment & to live in the present moment.

10. Emotions - Emotions are going to change so just accept it & do not react. Be acceptable and receptive towards your emotions.

11. Dive Deep Into Your Inner Self to reflect your real self. Unnecessarily do not try to be someone else to impress someone.

12. New & Fresh Perspective Towards Life. Life is beautiful when you accept it as it is.

13. Be Grateful for your body & for everything you have right now in your life. Our body & everything in this universe is working for us selflessly 24/7. Learn to be a giver of love, happiness and respect.

14. Don't Wait for someone to make you feel happy & precious. Be happy, be generous & be the first one to spread happiness in others lives.

15. Become who You Are - All pain, rejection & struggle you are facing today is shaping you to be who you really are. I realized it's making me who I'm today.

There is so much to say but words are very few to be expressed of the experience that I had during the process and will have during my lifetime as “LIFE IS A JOURNEY NOT A DESTINATION”.

As my Mentor Shri. Ketan Gavand always says the words said by Lao Tzu, "A JOURNEY OF A THOUSAND MILES BEGINS WITH A SINGLE STEP".

My journey has begun what about YOU. Join me to know more about meditation, how to take your life to the next level and bring happiness and joy into your life.
